Very dark (“negro”) with real intensity of fruit. A nice hint of cinnamonand spice at the back.

Lovely and dry, with an aromatic quality. Rich, broad flavours, with a spicy finish.

Corbieres “Vielle Vignes” Chateau Fontareche 2005 (France) £14.50 bottle
From one of the Languedocs finest estates, lovely fibrant nose with ripe damson fruit
and a bit of grip to give a rounded finish.


Light and easy Red wines

These are all relatively light in style, suitable for quaffing on their own or at lunchtime. They all work well with fish and white meats, and have oodles of character. Flavour levels are high, though tannins are generally quite low.

A unique Australian grape variety, similar to a Beaujolais but is even softer with mouthwatering redcurrant fruit and supple juicy textures.

The style of this section is altogether more serious. There are elements of tannin lending the wines structure, and giving them the power to complement stronger foods.

Nice savoury style which cries out for food!

Castillo Perelada Crianza 2004 (Spain) £13.50
This is a good example of Tempranillo grape from the Mediterranean shores. It has all the notes of Tempranillo but with the soft edge given by the gentle climate.

Lalande de Pomerol, Ch les Vieux Ormes, 2005 (France) £23.50
Classy claret from this exceptional vintage. The heat resulted in fleshy, juicy absurdly attractive wine.

Salicé Salento 2003 (Italy) £16.50
Oodles of weight, with a nice dry finish. Immensely enjoyable

St Emilion, Marquis de St Pey 2006 (France) £18.50
Mainly Merlot this is very approachable with plenty of backbone.

Reserve Shiraz, Castle Creek 2006 (Australia) £15.30
Lots of weight in this typically Australian wine. Sweet fruit and a healthy dollop of oak.

Rupert and Rothschild “Classique” 2003 (South Africa) £26.50
The Rothschilds of Ch. Lafite joined with South Africa’s powerful Rupert family to prove that South Africa can create wines capable of competing with the very best in Bordeaux… and it does! Comparable to a fine Pomerol at a fraction of the price.blockbusters!


These wines are more serious, and less likely to work well with light dishes. All have integrated tannin, which means they are suitable for richer dishes.

Merlot, Barossa Valley, Peter Lehmann 2006 (Australia) £17.30
A multi-award winner which proves just how good Aussie Merlot can be. World class.

Listrac, Château Fourcas-Dumont 2001 (France) £29.90
Excellent claret, now nicely mature. A frisson of tannin adds weight, but the whole thing entirely in balance. Cries out for food!

Chateauneuf du Pape, Les Galets Roulés 2005 (France) £28.50
Ridiculously gluggable take on the Rhône’s mightiest wine. Soft, jammy fruit with just a hint of herby garrigue adding interest.

Bodegas Murua, Rioja 1999 (Spain) £24.70 bottle
The blend of 8% Graciano and 2% Mazuelo with 90% Tempranillo gives the fruity compote aroma and taste which makes this wine so distinctive. Aged during 18 months in oak and further matured to perfection in bottle.

2006 Les Sorts Jove, Celler el Masroig, Monsant (Spain) £13.50 bottle
This wine is produced with hand picked and carefully selected Grenache grapes, with a little support of Syrah. A full bodied velvety blend which is perfect for any meat dishes. Recommended

Crisp and refreshing

The common denominator is a crisp acidity, making these wines perfect en aperitif. All are refreshing, with a steely character which cuts through sauces, complementing food perfectly

Dry, but with a rich, ripe texture. Full-bodied and satisfying.

Classic Loire Sauvignon – nice grassy style. Very fresh.

Totara Hill Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough 2007 (New Zealand) £20.90 bottle
The Kiwi classic, gooseberries and green grass all over the place!

2004 Bornos, Verdejo Cosecha, Rueda (Spain) £14.50
A dry wine and an excellent example of the Verdejo grape. Clean sharp, dry yet a very soft grape that’s very pleasnat to drink on it’s own. Fruit-packed, medium weight.


This section is all about exuberant fruit, so concentrated it makes the wine feel more serious. All are bone-dry, but with a lovely richness coating the palate

Viognier, Commissioner’s Block 2006 (Australia) £15.90 bottle
Intense aromas of peach and musk with luscious stone fruit and a long rich palate. All balanced with fresh acidity on the finish.

Pinot Grigio, “Norfolk Rise” 2006 (Australia) £18.50
This Australian take on the world’s trendiest grape is richer and more concentrated. Deliciously full-bodied and fresh.

2006 Perelada, Blanc de Blanc, Macabeo, Empurda Costa Brava (Spain) £13.50
A brilliant soft yellow coloured superb Blanc de Blanc. Intense aroma of white ripe fruits with a flowery edge. Very good taste with a corner of bitterness. Recommended

Riesling, Esk Valley, Hawkes Bay 2005 (New Zealand) £23.50
The hotter climate of Hawkes Bay suits Riesling, resulting in a rich, honeyed style.

Chablis, Le Manoir 2004 (France) £22.80 or £12.30 (half)
Pure Chardonnay, unoaked. with the unique complexity of great Chablis. Nice hints of mineral.Full-bodied and rich


These wine are all heavier and just a little bit riper. Some have just a whisper food-friendly oak, but all have a pleasing roundness on the palate.

An impressive blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Colombard, Ugni Blanc and a touch of Gros Menseng! It is unique as it is outstanding, full of ripe fruit with expertly blended to give an incredibly ripe but elegant wine.

Chardonnay, Bon Courage, Robertson Valley 2003 (South Africa) 19.50
A great example of barrel-fermented, New World Chardonnay. Intense flavours, but never clumsy or unbalanced. Mouth-filling and richly-textured.

Chenin blanc/Viognier “The Ruins”, Bon Cap Estate 2007 £15.90 bottle
Gently aromatic with plenty of body and peachy fruit. A well balanced and
multi-dimensional wine with honey blossom and lime giving a long but citrusy finish.

Pouilly-Fuissé “Vielles Vignes”, Domaine Simonin 2006 £31.90 bottle
Made from 60 year old vines beautifully crafted by Jacques Simonin, this is a truly
great wine. Dry and minerally to start, it then opens to give delicious ripe buttery
fruit and hints of peaches of pears. The finish is then elegant and long.

2005 Les Sorts Rosat, Grenache, Celler el Masroig, Monsant (France) £13.50
No wine beats Grenache for Rose making and this wine has body, aromas, and superb taste and after taste. A wine is so complete it will go well with any type of food.

Mistela is a classic dessert wine from the Catalonian region of Monsant. Made from a blend of white Grenache and Macabeo, it has fine aromas of white flowers, butter and patisserie.
