"My approach is fairly spontaneous and playful, starting with an idea, or drawings from life. I will experiment with materials, allowing an interplay between them, the direction they choose to take, and my response to it. Most of my recent work has been influenced by our current extremes of weather and its aftermath - a chaotic abundance of growth ravaged by teeming insect and wildlife. There is a kind of dishevelled and decadent beauty about it all. When I am working, there is a long process of trying to hold on to an image, while at the same time following the lead of the medium. There is always a sense of ‘ebb and flow’ - a sort of letting go and reining in, constantly working with conscious and unconscious processes and trying to find a balance between the two. Eventually, I am left with a version of my initial image, although much altered".
